Ozone layer over Czech Republic returns to normal after 25 years

The ozone layer over the northern hemisphere, and so also over the Czech Republic, grew thicker in 2010 and returned to normalcy, which the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMU) says is mainly due to an improved natural atmospheric circulation and environment protecting measures.

The CMHU said the normal condition means the situation before the ozone hole was created in around 1985.
The ozone layer over the Antarctic is still there, however, the CHMU said.
CHMU spokesman Petr Dvorak used lay words to describe the improvement of the situation, saying the missing ozone was brought over the northern hemisphere by natural circulation from other parts of the atmosphere.
"The fact that the ozone layer has been capable of resuming its normal condition by the work of natural atmospheric processes confirms experts´ conclusions about the impact of the protective measures introduced by the (1987) Montreal Protocol and its addenda," the CHMU wrote.
"Even though this was probably only a temporary phenomenon, it is a very favourable piece of news for experts that supports the assumption of further continuation of the natural restoration of the damaged ozone layer," the CHMU wrote about the registered improvement of the layer.
